The announcement of the freedom to sell anywhere in the
country came as welcoming for the farmers of the country. With the new
guidelines, the farmers are not bound to sell off the produce in their local
APMC. Well, this is a very thought out move from the government. The question
that arises now is whether the country's infrastructure is ready for this. Are
the farmers in the country adept and capable of carrying their produce to
various sellers, educated enough to handle mobile apps, availability of proper
infrastructure for storage of grains so as to sell the product when they can
get the best price, instant cash once the produce is sold, etc?
Well, we thought the government didn’t think of all these
aspects when they gave the farmers the options. The next announcement came as a
supporting process to enable the thought over changes. The announcement of 1 L
crore Agri infra fund for the development of the warehouses, grading and
assaying centers, supporting Agri entrepreneurs, and other infrastructure. If
this would be implemented in the best-case scenarios it would bring an abundance
of opportunities for the pan India trade and commerce.
